Mike still has his teddy from when he was a little boy - this story is dedicated to Mr Bear.
I cannot find my Teddy Bear
I think that he’s run off somewhere.
He knows that it is time for bed,
But thoughts of freedom fill his head.
When he decides to hide like this
It’s hard to know just where he is.
I’ll have to be extremely bright,
To catch him at this time of night.
I cannot find my Teddy Bear
Perhaps he’s underneath the stairs.
He loves to play this hide and seek,
Each night before he goes to sleep.
He likes the dimmest, darkest place,
He’ll vanish there without a trace.
I can’t see him, but he’ll see me,
A Teddy’s eyes are sharp, you see.
I cannot find my Teddy Bear,
He must be in his secret lair.
His very favourite hiding spot?
Inside the old grandfather clock,
He loves the pendulum inside,
And counts when it goes side to side.
You know, one time he said to me,
“I counted up to ninety three!”
I cannot find my Teddy Bear
I’ll track him down, if I do dare.
One time I found him up a tree,
Trying to catch a bumblebee.
He climbed and climbed and didn’t stop,
Until he reached the very top.
But when it came to coming down,
He found he couldn’t turn around.
I cannot find my Teddy Bear,
He must have gone to wash his hair.
When it’s his time to have a bath,
We always splash and have a laugh.
I rub the soap into his skin,
He chortles when I tickle him.
His fur sticks out in all directions,
He laughs when he sees his reflection.
I cannot find my Teddy Bear,
I’ll spot him by the stripes he wears,
All wrapped up in his dressing gown,
Dressed sharp enough to go to town.
His slippers look like Teddys too,
You’ll wish you had a pair for you.
You can’t mistake him for his brother.
One ear’s bigger than the other.
I cannot find my Teddy Bear,
He likes to take his favourite chair
So he can reach the cookie jar,
He’s short – his arms can’t stretch that far.
He’ll eat and watch the sun go down,
And see the sky turn reddy brown.
He’ll be outside without a doubt,
Singing as the stars come out.
I cannot find my Teddy Bear,
And I have searched most everywhere.
I’ll hop in bed and wait for him,
I’m sure he’ll come and jump right in.
But look at that – he’s there already,
I love my very silly Teddy.
“It’s late”, he yawns, “and I’m very sleepy,
Will you please read a book to me?”
